Apply for single person discount

If you’re the only adult over 18 living in a property or the only adult over 18 not counted for (disregarded) from Council Tax, you may be eligible for a discount of up to 25% on your Council Tax bill. 

You cannot claim a single-person discount if: 

• you’re under 18
• the property is your second home
• someone has moved out temporarily, but their main residence has not changed

Before you apply, you’ll need your Council Tax account number.

If you are no longer the only adult over 18 living in the property you must let us know so your discount can be updated. 

You may be eligible for another council tax discount.

Single-person discount review

If you receive a single-person discount on your Council Tax, you may get an email, text or letter from us asking you to complete a review form. This helps us to make sure you’re receiving the correct discount. If your discount has been removed because you did not complete the review you can reapply.
