Planning permission for solar panels
Planning permission is not usually needed for the installation of solar panels on the roof.
You can find out more about installing solar panels on the national planning portal.
Get confirmation that you don’t need planning permission
You can apply for a Lawful Development Certificate to prove an existing or proposed solar panel is lawful.
Apply for planning permission
If your installation doesn’t meet the above criteria, you can apply for planning permission on the national planning portal.
You need can apply for:
- full planning permission (flats) or
- householder planning permission (houses)
You can apply for pre-planning application advice to give yourself the best chance of getting approval.
