Protected trees

Check if a tree is protected, apply for permission to work on a protected tree, request to protect a tree and find out how to contact us if you think unauthorised work is taking place on a protected tree.

Request to protect a tree

If you believe a tree or group of trees should be protected, you can contact the Tree Officer using our general enquires form

You’ll need to provide:

  • your name and address
  • the location of the trees in a sketch plan or photos showing their position
  • the species of the trees if you know it
  • why you think the trees should be protected and if the trees are currently at risk in any way

We are not obligated to serve a TPO as it is a discretionary power. Your request will be considered by the Tree Officer and we’ll contact you to tell you our decision. If we decide not to serve the TPO, we’ll explain the reason to you.
