Tell us what you think of the website
Welcome to your brand new Council website. This is a beta version, not yet live to residents. We'd love to know what you think.
Find information on the types of issues that we can deal with, make an air quality complaint, and find out more about air pollution and what we are doing to improve air quality in the borough.
Odour can be considered to be a form of air pollution and even a statutory nuisance if it can be shown to be harmful to the health of the average person or if it interferes with the use or enjoyment of your property.
The most common source of odour complaints is commercial cooking.
The Council cannot intervene in issues of domestic odour such as domestic cooking and cigarette smoke.
If you smell gas please contact National Gas Emergencies on 0800 111 999 or visit the national grid website.
If you smell something that you think poses an immediate threat to your health, such as petrol, please contact the emergency services.
In the majority of cases, the most efficient way to stop a nuisance is by reporting it to the person responsible for causing it. They may not know that their activities are causing a disturbance.
However, if this method does not work, you may report the issue to the Council as follows.
NB - We do not accept anonymous complaints because we need to be able to contact you to discuss the issue. However, your identity will be protected in accordance with data protection regulations. If your complaint goes to court your identity may be revealed.
