Find out what changes can be made to a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate.

Download an application form

Download and complete the relevant application form. You will need to post it to us with your supporting documentation. It can take up to 6 weeks for changes to be made. It costs up to £99 to make a change to a certificate. 

You can only apply to make changes to a certificate if the information was wrong at the time of registration. 

Download an application form to:

• correct details on a birth registration
• remove wrong father’s details from a birth registration
• correct details on a death registration
• correct details on a marriage or civil partnership registration

Re-register a birth

To add new information such as updating a surname due to a marriage, you will need to re-register the birth.
