Reduce your waste and get involved

There are many fantastic local organisations that are making Kingston a greener place to live. These organisations play an important role in the community by helping Kingston’s residents reduce waste and reach our climate emergency targets. 

They are also at the forefront of advancing Kingston towards a more circular economy by adopting sustainable practices like reuse, repair, upcycling, and teaching residents these valuable skills.

These local community groups are often run by a handful of dedicated and passionate volunteers. If you want to learn more about ways you can reduce waste locally or volunteer for a great cause, why not reach out to one of our local community groups and help Kingston reach our climate goals.

Angels of the Hood

A charity that operates in and around Chessington. They collect food with a short shelf life from supermarkets and distribute it to those who need a little help making ends meet.

Kingston Environment Centre

A volunteer-run organisation, working to secure a sustainable future for Kingston.

The work they do includes:

• organising a Terracycle collection point for a variety of recyclable packaging
• Community Fridge where they give out surplus food from supermarkets
• hosting talks, meetups and regular events on a variety of environmental topics

Kingston Hive

Kingston Hive are a climate emergency centre operating near Kingston Station, who run activities including:

• events, workshops and sessions on sustainability
• repair and upcycling events
• a weekly second-hand and clothes swap shop

Save the World Club

A charity that collects items donated by the community and keeps them circulating through reselling, upcycling, repairing and recycling. They also collect surplus food from supermarkets to give away.

Sunray Recycle

Sunray Recycle operates a Terracycle drop-off point where you can recycle a vast range of materials.

The Good Food Group

Promote food sustainability by offering advice, recipes and classes on how to reduce food waste and redistribute surplus food.

Transition Town Kingston

Help to raise awareness of climate change and support residents' transition towards a low-carbon future. 

They operate a repair cafe on the first Saturday of every month at Kingston Library. You can bring broken household items and learn how to fix them with the support of local fixers.
