Black History Month events and celebrations

Find out about Black History 2024 celebrations and ongoing reflections, and the different events and activities that went on around the borough.

Kingston Museum

Kingston Museum will be running a free trail "From Kingston to Kingston, people, place and identity" during October, starting on Thursday, 3 October. The trail explores the links between our borough and the capital of Jamaica. Tracing these connections with a focus on three individuals of the Windrush generation, discover how they made the journey from Kingston, Jamaica to Kingston upon Thames

For more information on Kingston Museum, visit the Kingston Heritage Service website.

Kingston Libraries

Courtesy of the History Centre, panels showing fascinating information on black history will be displayed in two of our libraries. They will spend the first two weeks of October in Kingston Library, before being transferred to the Hook Centre for two weeks thereafter.

You can also check out our Black History Month book displays in all seven museums around the borough. The books on display celebrate Black culture, writers and celebrities, people who have made a difference, and those who have impacted Black rights.
