Tell us what you think of the website
Welcome to your brand new Council website. This is a beta version, not yet live to residents. We'd love to know what you think.
Apply to lower the kerb at the edge of the road to provide access to your property.
You’ll need to pay a non-refundable inspection fee of £178.50 to submit a dropped kerb application. If we reject your application, you will not receive a refund.
This fee only covers:
You will also be responsible for the cost of construction.
Our own approved suppliers carry out the construction work to create a new or extend an existing dropped kerb. You cannot use your own contractors for the work.
The maximum width for a dropped kerb is 4m, and this costs, on average, £1,800. Costs vary depending on the exact of the public footway and materials used.
Costs are non-negotiable, adjusted annually and set under the council's current term and with our contractors.
Sometimes, other work is needed to construct a dropped kerb. This could include:
You’ll also need to cover additional costs for completing other work.
You can pay using a credit card at the end of the application form. We can begin construction of the dropped kerb once we receive the payment.
We’ll contact you to discuss payment for construction and any additional costs.
If a member of your household has a disabled badge, the crossover fee will be refundable should your application not be successful (please do let us know after your property has been surveyed, if this is the case and it has been refused).
To provide additional flexibility, we will extend the limit on permitted grass verge loss for blue badge holders up to 3.0m (from 2.0m in the current Council Policy).
If your application is unsuccessful but you meet the criteria for a Disabled Bay we would consider this as an alternative option that you may wish to take up.
If your application is successful, you can claim a £100 discount on the cost of the construction work. After we've approved your dropped kerb, you can tell us about your blue badge.
