How this tool can help you

Use our estimators to find out what you might need to pay for council care and support services. This includes:

• long-term care in a care or nursing home
• care at home or in the community

The estimators work out the maximum amount you will need to pay towards the cost of your care. This is called your ’maximum ability to pay amount’. 

Knowing this will help you understand and plan for the costs of care and support from us.

Before you start

The estimators will ask you to provide details of your weekly income and costs, including: 

• income from pensions and benefits
• savings, shares, current accounts and investments
• housing costs such as Council Tax, ground rent, mortgage or rent and service charges

The more detailed and accurate information you provide, the more accurate your results will be. 

Disability-related expenditure

For non-residential care, if you receive a disability benefit, we’ll also ask about any additional costs related to your disability. We call these additional costs disability-related expenditure.

When using an estimator, remember that: 

• information you enter here will not be saved or sent to us
• we’ll ask for this information again during a full financial assessment
• the results you get are only an estimate, and your actual costs may be different
