Who Involve are

The Involve team are experts by experience. We use our lived experience to help people with learning disabilities and autism in Kingston. 

We work for Kingston Council and give advice to other teams in the Council and external organisations. 

What we do

We want to make things better for everyone in Kingston with a learning disability. 

We make sure that people with learning disabilities:

• are included in consultations within the borough
• get information about services in a way that is easy to understand

Easy Read

We make sure people with learning disabilities are given information about services in a way that is easy to understand.

The team creates Easy Read documents that are straightforward and simple. This helps people with learning disabilities understand important information.

The Easy Read format uses:

• plain language
• clear layouts
• related images

Speak to people

We meet regularly with residents to learn what is important to them. We also meet with other organisations like health, social care, transport, or employment to help people resolve problems.

Things to do

The team host weekly online quizzes, bingo and karaoke through Mencap Kingston. Residents can share stories, make new friends, and build a community.

Speak up for people with learning disabilities

We talk about health, transport and employment with different organisations, and help them to work with people with learning disabilities.

We give advice and guidance to Council teams and other organisations, including:

• Kingston’s adult social care team
• Kingston Hospital
• Transport for London (TfL)
• Job Centres
• many other community organisations

We want to make sure consultations include people with learning disabilities.
