Discretionary relief for non-profit organisations
You can apply to us for relief from business rates if you are a not for profit organisation. To qualify your organisations should:
- be a club, society or other body where the property is used for recreation, or
- have one of the following main objectives:
- philanthropic
- religious
- scientific
- literary
- concerned with the fine arts
- concerned with education
- concerned with social welfare
As the shortfall in your relief will be met by other Council Tax payers we have set criteria for deciding when relief is given. Please note backdating of all discretionary reliefs is limited to the first day of the current financial year within which an application is made.
Our decision is final but this does not affect your legal right to challenge a decision made by us through the judicial review process.
