Cllr Tim Cobbett, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Communities and Engagement, said:
This Hate Crime Awareness Week, I want to reaffirm our ambition to be a supportive and safe borough for all. We are proud of Kingston's diversity, and will challenge discrimination in all its forms. Our whole community has a part to play in ensuring hate crime isn't tolerated in our borough.
As a council, we recognise that this is very important. ‘Inclusive Kingston’, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy identifies a continuing need to work with our partners and communities to understand and monitor hate crime and support those affected - and we will continue to actively work with partners and communities to challenge all forms of hate crime in the borough.
As the Portfolio Holder for Equalities, I am personally showing my commitment to challenging hate crime in the borough and to ensuring that we are a welcoming and accepting place for everyone by pledging my commitment to Hate Crime Awareness Week. The council is committed to inclusivity and fostering a more equal borough. Currently, we are celebrating Black History Month, and recently hosted a successful Disability Awareness event in the Market Square.
Please read through our web pages for more information on what is being done about hate crime in Kingston, how to report a hate crime, and for advice and support if you have been a victim of hate crime.
